I am a sophisticated lover of espresso machines and drip coffee makers as they grind fresh coffee beans and deliver a fantastic espresso shot. I have been using the Breville Barista Express for a long time and grind my whole beans on my own with its integrated grinder. After some time, I replaced it with its premium model, i.e., Breville barista touch. I had an amazing experience with this machine. When my job started, I also needed a coffee maker for my office to fulfill my caffeine needs. One of my friends advised French Press, — AeroPress, — Moka Pot, and Percolators, but they lack a grinder and a frother. I did not have enough time to grind the beans and wait for the coffee to brew. Another advised instant coffee packets and single-serve coffee bags like tea bags, but I did not like these things. I wanted the small espresso machine that brews perfect coffee effortlessly and in less time. I also thought about drip coffee makers and Keurig coffee makers, but they can’t brew high-quality espresso, and I also did not drink long coffee.
My close friend or mentor suggested the Lattissima series. I also liked them, but all of these are slightly expensive models. I just bought a Barista touch for home use, and my job is new, so I did not have enough budget. I thought I would buy a coffee machine for temporary use, and when I get stable, I will buy a premium model. So, I found myself favoring the Nespresso Prodigio. It was a discontinued model, so I bought it for temporary use.
When I used it and brewed drinks with it, its advanced features and coffee settings delivered great drinks and gave me a spectacular experience. Nespresso Machines Overview
Nespresso offers two lines; OriginalLine and VertuoLine
OriginalLine machines: These machines use powerful 19 bars pressure and extract the perfect flavor and premium aromas from OriginalLine Nespresso Pods. They deliver fantastic espresso shots with dense crema. These machines are compatible with Nespresso OriginalLine pods and third-party Nespresso pods and are best for those who drink coffee regularly.
VertuoLine machines use the Centrifusion technique, scan the pod barcode, spin the pods at 7000 RPM, and pull the desired shot. These machines work well with VertuoLine pods only, but after the Nespresso and Starbucks partnership, they are also compatible with Starbucks by Nespresso Vertuoline pods. — VertuoLine machines are best for those who drink coffee now and then.

Nespresso Prodigio Coffee Machine Overview
The wireless or app connectivity feature makes it one of the best Nespresso models. The app connectivity/Bluetooth connection allows you to;
- Brew your drink remotely
- Schedule your brew time
- Monitor the machine status, such as water level
- Monitor the time of descaling
Prodigio offers 0.85 to 3.70 oz brew sizes. You can customize the brew size according to your desired water volume for this;
- Insert the capsule into the capsule container
- Press and hold the brew button until your desired volume is obtained.
- Release the brew button.
- The machine will remember the new settings for the future brew.
Prodigio does not have a preset Americano feature (as present in Essenza Mini), but you can set up your Americano drink (espresso + hot water) with a programmable brew button. Unfortunately, Prodigio does not come with milk frother. If you want to brew milk-based beverages (lattes, cappuccinos, etc.), buy a standalone Aeroccino milk frother.
Design — Simple And Sleek
My Prodigio came with a user manual, two water hardness test sticks, and 16 free coffee or Nespresso pods. It was a small machine with a 4.7 “W x 14.7” D x 10.1 “H dimension. I easily fit it on my office bench and move it here and there due to its 7 lbs weight and rotatory water tank (27 oz). Its interface is simple; it has only three brew buttons that brew 0.85 oz ristretto, 1.35 oz espresso, and 3.70 oz lungo. The capsule compartment is removable and large (it can accommodate 18 used capsules). No doubt, Nespresso Prodigio is a well-built capsule-based machine.
Nespresso Prodigio Milk — With Aeroccino Milk Frother
Nespresso Prodigio comes with or without Aeroccino milk frother. If you love to brew only espresso-based beverages, buy a Prodigio without a frother. If you love to enjoy latte, cappuccino, macchiato, etc., buy a Prodigio bundle (Prodigio + Aeroccino milk frother). The one-touch aeroccino frother will give you hot and cold foam and allows you to brew a wide variety of beverages in the comfort of your home.
Settings — Via Nespresso App
The Nespresso Prodigio espresso machine can easily connect with the Nespresso app, thanks to the Bluetooth connectivity feature. You can do everything with the app that you normally do on the espresso machine. The Nespresso app allows you to personalize your brew sizes and will alert you when the capsule container is full, descaling is needed, or the empty water tank. I also find it easier to run the machine from the app. The app helps you in your machine maintenance and allows you to set a timer for the next shot and customize the water volume and temperature of the drink.
Coffee quality
I paired the Prodigio with the Nespresso app and then brewed with it. I turned the espresso machine on; the machine took 25 seconds to heat up. I inserted the capsule, closed the slider, placed the cup under the coffee outlet, chose the espresso, and pressed the start brewing button on the app. The machine delivered me a smooth drink with velvety crema in 60 seconds. After the brewing process is completed, the machine automatically ejects the capsule. I also brewed lungo, and the shot was strong and complex. The foldable drip tray allows me to brew in larger cups. With Prodigio, you can never get a bad coffee cup. One more thing, you cannot pause the coffee flow by pressing the same button again. If you want to stop the coffee flow, open the slider; no coffee will come out, and the water directly goes into the drip tray.
Capsules Compatibility
I brewed my drink with OriginalLine Nespresso pods, and the drink’s quality, texture, body, and taste were beyond anything. I also tried 3rd-party Nespresso capsules, and the machine delivered the same perfect cup of coffee as delivered with Nespresso OriginalLine pods. Unfortunately, Nespresso Prodigio does not work with VertuoLine pods and Starbucks by Nespresso Vertuo Pods. Can you use your own Ground coffee in Nespresso Prodigio?
Nespresso Prodigio espresso machine allows you to use reusable/refillable pods filled with your desired pre-ground coffee. You can use reusable stainless steel Nespresso pods if you have a grinder and want to grind your preferred whole beans.
Nespresso Prodigio Descaling And Maintenance
Prodigio espresso machine offers quick and easy cleaning. I washed the water reservoir and drip tray with hot soapy water and washed the machine’s exterior and capsule container with a damp cloth.
