I am a coffee enthusiast and can’t imagine my life without a perfect cup of coffee. I grind my fresh whole beans and brew splendid beverages. With an integrated frother and grinder, Breville Oracle has fulfilled my needs. When it started to cause problems after a few years of use, I replaced it with its premium model, i.e., the Breville Oracle Touch. Its advanced features and ability to control all the processes with an intuitive touchscreen gave me a barista-like experience.

When I started my job, I had to go on business trips. I cannot take my Oracle touch with me as it is a heavy machine. So, I replaced it with one of the compact OriginalLine machines, i.e., Essenza Mini. This feature-packed machine supported me on all trips; accidentally, my Essenza Mini broke down during a trip. I felt sad; one of my friends suggested French Press Aeropress, —- Percolators, —- drip coffee makers, —- Grind & Brew coffee makers, but their espresso quality was not good. Another advised instant coffee packets and single-serve coffee bags like tea bags. But these things are best for office use only.

I was stuck at that point; I met with my close friend for personal reasons. She brewed coffee in large mugs for me. I was surprised at how she brewed coffee in such a large amount. When asked, she told me that she used a Keurig coffee maker. She gave me details of all its features and settings. I also wanted to try it, but it was expensive, and I did not have enough budget.

I searched for something similar to Keurig and came across VertuoLine machines. I chose the Nespresso VertuoLine espresso and coffee machine, i.e., Nespresso Evoluo, as it is discontinued and available at a low price. I thought I would use it for some time, and when my budget got high, I would replace it with any expensive or premium model. But, Nespresso Evoluo gave me a spectacular experience.

Here is a complete description of my experience with this splendid machine. I also mentioned its features, settings, pros, and cons.

Bottom Line

One of the best VertuoLine machines, Evoluo brews 0.3 to 17 oz coffee beverages. Its large water tank (57 oz), used capsule (17) capacity, fast 15 seconds heat up time, 5 brew sizes, and single-button operation make it suitable for everyone.

Espresso Machine Vs. Coffee Machine

Espresso machines pass hot water through uniform coffee grounds. They use powerful 15-19 bar pressure pumps, high speed, and standard temperature to extract balanced espresso shots within 25-30 seconds. They use dark, light, or medium roasted beans and make 2-ounce shots having a strong taste and color. Espresso machines can be of two types:

Coffee makers pass hot water through coffee grounds (either fine or coarse) and filters. They make acidic and bright coffee beverages in 5 oz cups to 60 oz carafes. The brewing process takes 2-30 minutes. Coffee machines can be of two types;

What Is The Difference Between Espresso And Coffee?

The main difference between coffee and espresso is the brewing method.

Coffee: In coffee preparation, coffee grounds (coarse or fine) are evenly spread in the filter, and the machine brews them. The machine passes hot water through filters and grounds.

Espresso: In preparation, the brewer passes hot water through fine coffee grounds and delivers a concentrated shot.

The other notable differences between coffee and espresso are as follows;

  • Coffee has 80 to 185 mg caffeine content in 8 oz cups, while espresso has 40-75 mg caffeine in 1 oz shot.
  • Coffee types include; drip coffee and filter coffee, while espresso can be without milk or milk-based (lattes, macchiatos, cappuccinos, etc.) or water-based (Americano, etc.).
  • Coffee serving is 5 oz cups to 60 oz carafe, while espresso serving is 1-2 oz.
  • Coffee brewing time is 6-12 minutes, while espresso takes only 20-30 seconds.

Nespresso Evoluo Overview

Nespresso offers two lines of machines; OriginalLine and VertuoLine.

OriginalLine Machines: These machines extract perfect flavor and premium aroma from Nespresso capsules via a powerful 19-bar pressure pump.

VertuoLine machines use the Centrifusion technique, scan the capsule’s barcode, and vigorously run the capsule at 7000 RPM to extract the authentic flavor. It also brews coffee up to 17 oz.

OriginalLine machines are better than Nespresso VertuoLine machines because;

  • They use Nespresso brand capsules and inexpensive 3rd party capsules, while VertuoLine machines only use expensive Vertuo pods
  • They deliver hotter coffee than VertuoLine machines.
  • They brew authentic espresso cups with perfect crema while VertuoLine machines deliver espresso with airy crema.

Besides these, Vertuo-Line espresso coffee makers are worthy dual brewers; they brew espresso, Double Espresso, gran lungo, coffee, or other beverages in different sizes.

Design — Streamlined & Simple

When I unboxed my black Evoluo espresso maker, its sleek and simple design was quite pacifying. Evoluo comes in 5 colors; red, black, titan, graphite, and silver. All of these bold colors will decorate your kitchen very well. It was a large and heavy brewer ( dimension, 9.0 “W x 12.2” D x 12.3 “H); well, I had a lot of space, so I fit it easily on my kitchen countertop. I liked its easily accessible large water tank (54 oz) and capsule compartment (17 used capsule capacity). In short, Evoluo has impressed me greatly with its elegant and simple design.

Set up — 5-Minute Process

When I started setting it up, I faced no problem. I followed the manual’s instructions; firstly, I removed the water reservoir and washed it very well. After this, I filled the water tank with clean water, fixed it on the back of the machine, and turned it on. After 15 seconds of heat up, I pressed the button three times, and the machine performed a cleaning cycle on its own. It took only 5 minutes, and my machine is ready to brew. If you want to stop the cleaning process, press the same button only one time.

Coffee Quality — Intense And Aromatic

The brewing process was easy when I brewed with Evoluo, and the drink quality was beyond anything. I filled the water reservoir, inserted the desired Vertuo pod (espresso pod, 1.35 oz), placed the coffee cup under the coffee outlet, and pressed the start button. This coffee machine delivered me an intense splendid shot with a rich crema. The machine automatically adjusts the brewing parameters such as water temperature, quantity, pressure, rotational speed (7000 RPM), etc. Each Vertuo pod has its specific barcode and offers specific cup sizes. The machine scanned its barcode and delivered the desired drink.

  • Espresso — 1.35 oz
  • Double espresso — 2.7 oz
  • Gran lungo — 3.7 oz
  • Coffee — 7.8 oz
  • Alto — 14 oz
  • Carafe — 17 oz

If you want to brew latte, cappuccino, macchiato, etc., buy a standalone Aeroccino milk frother. The one-touch Aeroccino frother will give you perfect hold and cold foam within a few seconds for your beverages. However, if you want to taste iced coffee, pour some ice over your drink and enjoy.

How To Make Coffee And Espresso With Evoluo Coffee Maker?

Evoluo delivers perfect espresso and coffee recipes.

For single-serve coffee:

  • Turn on the machine and allow it to heat for 15 seconds.
  • Adjust the drip tray according to your cup size and place the desired coffee cup under the coffee outlet.
  • Insert the pod (specific for coffee, i.e., 7.8 oz).
  • The machine will deliver the perfect cup of coffee with hazelnut color into your coffee cup within 1 minute.
  • Once the process is completed, the machine will automatically eject the capsule.

For Espresso:

The entire process is the same as followed for coffee preparation except, instead of coffee pods, place the espresso pod (1.35 oz) in your Evoluo machine. The machine will deliver a well-balanced espresso shot with a strong aroma and airy crema into your cup.

Can Evoluo (Nespresso VertuoLine Coffee Maker) Make Double Espresso?

Evoluo makes double espresso with its double espresso Vertuo pod. Each Vertuo pod has its specific barcode and brew size, such as;

  • Espresso — 1.35 oz
  • Double espresso — 2.7 oz
  • Gran lungo — 5 oz
  • Coffee — 7.8 oz
  • Alto — 14 oz
  • Carafe — 17 oz

Simply insert the double espresso pod into the machine and press the start button; the machine will read the capsule’s barcode and deliver your desired drink within one minute.

Nespresso Evoluo Cleaning

Evoluo offers a quick and simple cleaning process. When I cleaned it according to the manual’s guidelines, it took only 5 minutes. I cleaned the machine’s exterior with a damp cloth, emptied the capsule container, and washed the water tank, drip tray, and capsule container with hot soapy water. After this, I pressed the button 3 times, and the machines performed three cleaning cycles automatically. It is recommended to clean the brewer regularly to keep it in a good position.

It also has descaling alerts. For descaling, I filled the water tank with a descaling solution, pressed the button for two seconds, and the machine performed the descaling cycle automatically. The whole process is completed in just 20 minutes.

Nespresso Evoluo Manual

Evoluo’s manual contains all information regarding its use, setup, cleaning, descaling, troubleshooting, and more. You can download this manual in PDF form, available at Nespresso.com, manuals. plus, and manualsfile.com

Extra Features

  • The machine automatically turns off after 9 minutes of inactivity and saves energy.
  • It has a removable and adjustable drip tray. The drip tray offers four adjustable positions, allowing you to brew in small or large mugs.
  • The Evoluo has an automatic capsule ejection feature and automatically ejects the capsule after the brewing process.
