I am a sophisticated coffee lover and brew coffee on my own to get satisfied. I have used French Press, — AeroPress, — Moka pot, and Percolators over the past few years. I grind whole coffee beans on my own in a separate grinder. Then, I bought a Breville Barista Express to expand my knowledge and witness the luxurious coffee experience. Barista Express has made my life quite easier with integrated frother and grinder. After some time, I decided to replace it with a top-notch machine when it showed problems. I thought about Keurig and drip coffee makers, but their espresso quality is not good. So, I replaced the Barista Express with the Premium model, i.e. Breville Oracle Touch. Its innovative features/services have increased my experience and amazed me with many Barista-style recipes.
I was happy that I had a top-notch machine, and in my opinion, nothing is beyond that machine, but I was wrong. Last week, my friend visited me for some personal reason. I served her coffee brewed with Oracle Touch. She liked the coffee, but when she came to my kitchen, she commented; such a heavy and large machine. I did not expect such a compliment from her as I thought all machines used to be heavy and large. When I asked the reason, she shared her experience with me.
She told me that she is using one of the compact, affordable, and versatile original machines, i.e. Nespresso Essenza Plus, a new Essenza machine. She detailedly told me about its features, settings, drink quality, and brew sizes. When she left, I searched for its features on my own to get satisfaction. Espresso machines pass hot water through uniform coffee grounds. — Espresso machines use powerful pressure pumps, standard temperature, and high speed to extract balanced espresso shots within 25-30 seconds. OriginalLine Machines: These machines use a powerful 19-bar pressure pump and extract perfect flavor and premium aroma from coffee capsules.
VertuoLine machines use the Centrifusion technique, scan the capsule’s barcode, and vigorously run the Nespresso capsule at 7000 RPM to extract the authentic flavor.
OriginalLine machines are better than VertuoLine machines as they use inexpensive 3rd party capsules and deliver hot coffee and better espresso shots without centrifusion and scanning techniques.
Essenza Plus Espresso Machine Overview
Essenza Plus has a compact, no-frill design and also has the following notable upgrades as compared to the Essenza Mini such as;
- Essenza Plus is 4.7″ wide while Essenza Mini is 3.2″ wide
- Essenza Plus has a 34 oz water tank capacity, while Essenza Mini has a small 20 oz water reservoir

Design— No-Frill & Streamlined Design
It has an average rating value of 4.9 out of 5 stars on Amazon. So, I ordered this versatile machine at Amazon, which arrived within 3-5 business days at my location. When I unboxed the machine, its compact, no-frill, and streamlined design impressed me greatly. It is available in three fantastic colors; White, black, and Cherry. Its all colors can decorate your kitchen very well. However, I ordered this brewer in white color as this color is compatible with my kitchen cabinets. It has tiny footprints and a 4.7 “W x 15.6” D x 10.0 “H dimension, so it easily fits on my kitchen countertop. Also, it is lightweight and portable, and I did not face any problem moving it around. The glossy finish increases its beauty and makes it aesthetically elegant.
Ease Of Use— No Mess & No Waste
Essenza Plus is a luxury model with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars on Amazon. At first, I was scared as I did not know how to use it. But I did it within a few seconds when I started to brew my first cup. I simply inserted the capsule and pushed the espresso button; the brewer delivered me the 1.35 oz authentic shot with rich crema within a few seconds. Also, the brewer automatically ejects the capsule after brewing. The whole process is automatic, very astonishing for me. I was lost in my drink, and I completely forgot to turn off the machine, but Essenza Plus also shocked me with its auto-off feature, i.e., it automatically turned off after 9 minutes of inactivity.
Water reservoir— Removable & Transparent
Essenza Plus (with a rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars on Amazon) comes with a 33.8 oz water reservoir; it is relatively large compared to the brewer size. This capacity is enough for me as it allows me to brew several cups without refilling. The water tank is removable, adjustable, and has a cylinder shape; it is also transparent, so I did not face any trouble monitoring the water level.
Essenza Plus with Aeroccino frother
Unfortunately, Essenza Plus lacks a milk frother, and this thing was quite disappointing for me. Besides espresso-based drinks, I am also fond of milk-based beverages, so I paired my Essenza Plus with a Nespresso Aeroccino frother. Now, I can easily make hot and cold drinks. It is quite easy to use the Aeroccino frother; I filled the frother with milk up to the desired level and pressed the dense froth button. The Aeroccino delivered me well-textured foam or froth for my beverages. The Aeroccino delivered 4.1 oz hot & cold milk froth and 8.1 oz hot milk.
Essenza Plus Capsules — All Nespresso Capsules
I brewed my drink with Nespresso Original capsules, it was quite an amazing experience, and the quality, texture, and taste of the drink were beyond anything. I also tried 3rd-party Nespresso capsules, and the brewer delivered the same fabulous drink as delivered with Nespresso pods. Unfortunately, Essenza Plus does not work with VertuoLine pods and Starbucks by Nespresso Vertuo Pods. If you want to brew long coffees with VertuoLine pods, search out one of the VertuoLine machines.
Drink Quality & Brew Sizes
Essenza Plus (with a rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars on Amazon) comes with three pre-programmable buttons. I brewed a drink with all of these buttons. The 19-bar pressure, standard temperature, and flow time deliver great quality drinks without setting your foot into any coffee shop. When I pressed the first button and inserted the capsule, the brewer performed the extraction process, added hot water, and delivered me a well-balanced 1.35 oz espresso shot with a rich crema. When I pressed the second button, it delivered me an aromatic and rich flavor 3.7 oz lungo shot. You don’t have to adjust the temperature, pressure, or other variables; the brewer will do everything for you.
Its third button delivered 5.05 oz Americano and 6.75 oz Americano XL. For 5.05 oz Americano, I pressed the espresso and hot water options at the same time. I also tried XL Americano; I simultaneously pressed the lungo and hot water options. Both drinks have top-notch quality, and these drink sizes are set by default. You can also program these brew sizes according to your taste; press and hold the hot water and espresso/lungo button until you receive your desired volume. The brewer will remember this setting for the future brew.
Cleaning — Quick & Simple
All parts of Essenza Plus are detachable and offer a quick and simple cleaning process. According to the instructions in the user manual, I Emptied the drip tray, water reservoir, and capsule container. I washed the water tank and drip tray with hot soapy water and cleaned the machine’s exterior and coffee outlet with a damp cloth. It took a few minutes, and my brewer was in ready-to-go mode. Nespresso also recommended cleaning the brewer regularly to keep it in a good position and to increase its lifespan up to 10 years.
Essenza Plus Descaling
Essenza Plus (with a rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars on Amazon) has a little plus yet essential feature, i.e., descaling alarm, depending on the water hardness level. Descaling is done with a descaling solution, and it takes 15 minutes. The steps include;
- Empty the drip tray and capsule container.
- Fill the water tank with a descaling solution.
- Press and hold the espresso, lungo, and hot water buttons for 5 seconds; the brewer will be in descaling mode.

Environmental Impact
Most people avoid Nespresso makers as they think they have to throw the pods after one use, which is a wasteful act. Throwing a lot of pods after every use can also damage the environment. Nespresso offered a Pods Recycling Program and solved this problem. Nespresso pods are made of Aluminum, and it is a recyclable material. It can be melted down & reused multiple times. Nestle invested over $1.2 million, upgraded New York City’s recycling facilities, and helped them handle their capsules. If you are in New York City, then you can freely dispense your Nespresso Pods into the recycling bin to recycle them. However, If you are not a New York City resident, you must order a recycling bag from Nespresso; the company ships the bag free and can accommodate 200 used pods. Fill the recycling bag with used capsules and store it in the freezer to prevent it from smelling.
