Most Keurig users face problems that vary with each Keurig coffee maker. Some owners forget to repair their K-Duo, and some don’t want to use it anymore, so they switch to other coffee makers. And when they return to their original Keurig K-Duo, it’s not working.

The only problem is understanding Keurig K-Duo’s problems and how to solve them. That’s where this article you’re reading comes in handy. This article has collected all the information you need to troubleshoot Keurig K-Duo. Let’s dive deeper into the article.

What are the major problems with Keurig K–Duo?

Some major problems associated with Keurig K–Duo are:

Low water sensor:

The low water sensor in Keurig indicates the water level of the reservoir. The water reservoir is attached to the machine via two pipes, and one is attached to the water pump while the other is to the low water sensor. If there is any problem with the sensor, there will be an “ADD WATER” signal on the monitor when you switch on Keurig. Make sure the machine is unplugged. Always try the simple technique to solve the issues, like first putting some water on the reservoir plunger and gently applying pressure with the thumb to remove any air bubbles. Repeat the procedure two or three times. Check the machine. If the problem is not solved, open the machine cover. The machine’s back cover is removed by simply sliding it backward or applying a little force by a screwdriver to remove its tabs.

Check the pipe connecting the reservoir and the sensor for any blockage or kink. The other end of the pipe is connected to the outer vent, which any bug or particle can block. Remove any kink and gently remove it, allowing the water from the reservoir to flow freely in the pipe to the sensor.

Water pump:

If you observe that while the machine is on but not brewing the coffee, check the pipe connected with the water reservoir and the pump; maybe there is a deposition of some debris or scaling up minerals in the pipe. Gently press the pipe and do a simple water rinse. After cleaning or descaling the water pump pipe still, there is a grinding sound while the machine is on and it’s not brewing then maybe there is a problem in the motor. If there is a motor problem, the whole machine may be replaced.

Air Pump

The air pumps pass hot water through K-cup pods and deliver your coffee into the cup. Sometimes, you may get less coffee than usual which means there is some issue with the air pumps. Usually, the debris builds up in the air pumps and causes the problem; you can fix it by figuring out the opening from where Keurig K-Duo pumps the water. Properly clean the opening with a dish towel and clean the debris. If still, the problem persists, descale your machine.

Sometimes, the brewer does not pump water but produces a grinding noise, which means the motor cannot pump the water properly. It happened when air stuck into the machine; shake the brewer to resolve the issue. However, the motor is entirely broken if you don’t hear the grinding noise and the water is not pumping properly. In that case, replace the motor or whole unit yourself or contact Keurig Customer Care Service.

Common Problems

Besides all of the above major problems, there are some common problems that you may face while using Keurig K-Duo. If you don’t fix these problems properly or on time, these can adversely affect the working of your brewer. Below are some minor problems and the way how to fix them.

Bottom Needle In Keurig – How to Clean Them?

Gently open the machine’s top cover, and you will find a K- cup and a bottom basket. The needle placed at the bottom basket is the bottom needle which can easily be removed by applying a little pressure from the bottom with your finger as it is not a sharp or pointed needle, so a little push backward will remove it. The basket consists of two parts which can be separated by twisting them. Please make sure the pockets in the other half of the basket are clean by simply dusting them off and cleaning them with water. The upper half of the basket containing the needle can be cleaned by taking a pointy needle or a pin and simply cleaning the small hole present, which may get clogged by the coffee grains. Thoroughly clean it in the sink by running water through it. Join both basket halves and ensure the grooves fit well in the tabs.

The bottom needle basket is fixed back in the machine; while fixing it, ensure the needle is towards the machine. After placing it on the cover of the machine should be closed easily.

Top Needle In Keurig-K Duo And Its Cleaning:

The top needle in the Keurig cannot be removed, it is attached to the machine’s cover, and unlike the bottom needle, it is sharp and pointy. The top needle has three holes in it. Take a sharp pin or a needle and gently clean the holes by passing the needle or the pin through one to another adjacent hole and from that hole to its adjacent hole; while doing this, be careful not to pop the needle or pin in the pipe attached to the top needle. Close the cover of the machine and run a bunch of water through it to make sure the needles are clean. If the water doesn’t come in a steady stream, repeat the cleaning process one or two times more.

Reinstall The Bottom Needle

The bottom needle is in the needle basket and is less sharp and pointy. During brewing, the coffee residue can get stuck into the bottom, and you must clean it. Push the needle basket from the bottom, and it will pop out. Separate the below part, and you will see your below needle. The below needle is undetachable, so you can only clean it and are not able to remove it. Clean it properly and assemble the needle basket properly.

How To Install Top Needle Basket

The needle basket is the place where you insert your desired K-cup pod. You can also fill this basket with your desired coffee grounds and can enjoy your favorite coffee. After each brewing, you must clean this basket but be careful as this contains a sharp needle. With your finger, pop out the needle basket. Clean it properly so that no coffee residues remain in it. Fix it back according to its locks and gaps. For more detail, watch the below video.
